5 Ways to Increase The Trustworthiness of Your eCommerce Website

Most of the people today still conduct businesses based on trust. If you are trying to convince someone to buy something from you, the first thing you want to establish and gain is their trust.

Your eCommerce website is not the only place that people can get their items from, that is why you need to gain their trust at the first place in order for them to ‘stay’ on your website and perhaps buy something from you at the end of the day.

In this post you will learn a few ways to increase the trustworthiness of your eCommerce website.

1. Use a professional web design

Do you prefer to shop in a nice, clean and neat convenient store or a messy, cluttered and dirty one?

The same theory applies to all the eCommerce online storefront.

Your web design gives the first impression to your visitors as it’s the first thing that they see once they have landed on your website.

Always use a good design or hire a professional web designer to beautify your eCommerce online store.

Your visitors will have more confidence in giving their credit card information to you if your online store looks professional and decent.

2. Secure your online store

Your online store will receive sensitive information like full names, billing addresses, emails, contact numbers and credit card information. The last thing you want to happen is some hackers mess up your database and steal information from you and the customers who put trust in you.

Ensure your eCommerce website code is secure (if you hard coded it yourself), and leverage website anti-virus and firewall to further enhance your website security.

SSL certificate is extremely useful when it comes to processing sensitive information in a eCommerce website. Additionally, it adds a padlock icon to your visitors’ browser which increases the confident of your buyers when they are performing transactions on your website. This is a MUST if you are using any payment gateway.

3. Update frequently

Always update your website and keep it up-to-date no matter it’s the design, program, features or your products.

If your website haven’t been updated for a long time, your visitors might think there’s a chance that your have already abandoned this website, or it’s no longer in use.

Having outdated information is also a turn-off and lower down your website’s trustworthiness.

If you do not have a lot of products and your product information stay the same most of the time, try to establish a blog so you can refresh new content on your site with it.

4. Make yourself reachable

Place your contact information in a place where people can easily see or find them. Provide as many ways as possible for people to contact you will as this will increase their trust on your site, as you have nothing to hide and they know there are real people operating this website.

Displaying your personal photo may help too but it is not really necessary.

Update your contact information immediately if you have changed your number, email address or store location.

5. Display badges and certifications

Some SSL or website security software provides a badge for webmaster to place it on their website. You can use this badge and display it as this will increase the confidence and trust of visitors.

You can also include any certifications or awards that you or your company owned, and display it on your website’s footer.
