How many of you are still going to office to work? The amount of home workers are increasing, no matter you are a freelancer or an employee for a company.
A study shows that home workers face some problems in their lifestyle, namely longer working hours and social isolation. Most people falls in the category of working longer than expected when they are working from home, so how do you avoid from that?
Below are 5 effective ways to improve work efficiency for home workers, believe me that you will be working better and greater after this.
1. Do Not Browse Social Networks
Do not turn on your Facebook, Twitter and any other social accounts if this has nothing to do with your work. Social networks possesses a great threat to your time as it will use up it up for doing useless things like checking up what your friends are doing, new photos upload etc. that has totally nothing to do with your work, worse especially this occurs during working hour.
If your work requires you to post social updates on the company’s social networks, just get your job done and close it immediately after used. Focus on your work and do not be distracted by social updates. Close them all so you won’t check on those browser tabs like every 3 minutes.
2. Pre-planning
Wake up from bed, brush your teeth then sit on your chair and start working? Don’t do that.
Before you start your work, write down and plan out what you want to do and achieve for the day, preferably even before you turn on your computer.
Once you set up your plan and targets, arrange them in order, try not to multi-task too much as this will drag all tasks longer to be done than they should have.
Put a check mark on the task you have finished, believe me you will have a sense of “achievement” when you do that action, it is not silly at all!
3. Listen to Musics
In a study in Neuroscience of Behavior and Physiology, it is said that a person’s ability to recognize images, letters, and numbers was much faster when there was a music playing in the background compared to when there was no music.
Listen to musics that “turn your working mood on”, but not club hits that just distract you and makes you want to dance. Of course you can listen to club hits if it makes you work better and not distracting you, to each his own.
Here’s an infographic that shows you what music should you listen to on the job (click on image to enlarge):
4. Do The Easier Things First
I always recommend doing the easier things first, the difficult ones later. Why? Because in this way, you can get more things done faster and earlier.
In a psychological way, you feel that you have achieved more for the day if you finish up the easier things first so that you get more motivation to do the harder things later.
If you start your day with the most difficult task first, you will stumble and feel frustrated when you just can’t finish it in time.
5. Consistent Maintenance of Your Tools
You need your tools to work, whether it’s a computer, pen, tablet or phone. If these tools fail, you can’t do your work, aren’t you?
Make sure that you consistently maintain and clean your working tools, like running anti-virus scan, defragment and software updates on your computer. Don’t let your tools slow you down, as they are supposed to help you get your work done easier and faster.
