For the masses, Facebook is just a social site for them to share social updates, photos and also view some videos. However, to many business owners, this is a great and potential platform for them to harness it as a marketing tool.

Today, Facebook has over 1 billion registered users, and a big portion of these users have their own fan page, which they used to promote their own business or gather fans with similar interest. As Facebook is getting more and more crowded, businesses are struggling to get new fans and customers to their site. We are here to share some tips on doing your Facebook Marketing as a newbie.

1. Stay Motivated

Do not get beaten down in just a few days of not getting good amount of fans. The foremost reason why people fail is because that they lose patience fast and give up before they see any results. Never give up! You may not be able to see a dramatic growth in your fan base in just a few days after you have just started your new Facebook page. This is because it takes time for Facebook and search engine to index your page, as well as getting notice by people. Keep re-motivate yourself when you lose hope, keep believing and soon you will see a rise in your fans number as long as you keep on believing and doing the right thing.

2. Don’t be Too General

One of the mistakes that newbies always make in their early Facebook marketing plan is over focusing on general topics. Don’t try to please and entertain everyone, scope down your target and only focus on people who are interested in your product or service. This way, you will get more targeted fans who are more likely to purchase your products instead of people who just LIKE for fun. You can’t expect an 18 year old teens to buy your 40’s suits, aren’t you?

Focus on your target market to understand their behaviour, so that you can develop and plan posts that they are interested to see and they will more likely to engage.

3. Your Content Matters

What you post and what you write on your page matters the most. First make sure your page is visually attractive by changing your cover photo and profile picture. Add rich content to your page description and remember to add your website link and contact information if you have them, it makes your page looks more reliable and legit.

Make sure you post something even you have a very low page likes count. This is because if new users visit your page and see the last post is very outdated, they might think that this is an abandoned page and just move on without liking your page. Always make sure your page looks fresh and updated.

4. Pre-planning & Scheduling

Plan ahead on what you are going to post in the weeks ahead. You may have festivals or holidays which you may want to greet your fans or offer some attractive promotions. You may not know you will get a busy week ahead of you and forget to update your Facebook page all over. It is good that you do pre-planning and schedule your posts to publish automatically. In this way, you will never miss out a post and always be on time.

Lastly, if you do not want to put too much time and resource in Facebook Marketing alone, you may consider outsourcing it to a Facebook marketer, in this way you can focus on your core business while still able to maintain a strong Facebook page profile.
