You’ve probably heard a lot of times from people who mentioned that they earn money over the internet, but just exactly how do they do it?
Not everyone is using the same method and by saying “I earn money from the internet” is merely saying it out generally.
However, the very first step always include making a website of your own.
In this article we are going to share with you some ideas and methods on how to make a website that earns money, and this can be your passive side income if you do it correctly.
1. Get your website designed and build up
Of course, you can’t start earning money from your website if you don’t even have one. Your first and foremost step into your money making adventure should start off by creating a website.
So, how to make a website? If designing and coding is not your sort of things and you have no intention to learn it at all, simply get your website design by a web designer.
Keep in mind that if you are going for affiliate or Google Adsense methods, make sure you allocate some blank spaces for the banner ads later.
Additionally, if you are not selling graphics or stock photos, try to use design that is as simple as possible to reduce your page loading time.
2. Build Content
The value of a website depends on its content. If your website is empty then definitely it’s not going to worth much and no advertiser will be interested in your website.
Once your design is completed, you should start by putting useful and quality content into it. A blog is often the best and easiest tool for you to insert new content.
If you are running a ecommerce website, upload your products and write helpful descriptions on each of the products. Use attractive and relevant images for each post and product.
Building content is the most tedious and often the task that requires the most passion and patience. Just remember to make your own content and do not copy from other’s website, else you are risking your website to get punish by search engines.
3. Social Linking
Social networks are something you could not neglect these days. Connect and link your website with multiple social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, YouTube, Stumble Upon and many more.
Some of these social networks have a profile field where you can put your “official website” like Twitter, Facebook and Google+, so make sure you link them to your website. In the case when people visit your social profile, they can be linked to your website as well.
Keep your social accounts active. You don’t need frequent updates, but make sure you do update them to prevent them from “dead”.
4. Monetize
Once your website foundation has been built, you can then start monetizing it and earn money!
There’s a few ways to monetize your website:
- Ad space, for publishers
- Affiliate site
- Intermediary platform
- Sell your service
- Sell your products via ecommerce
- Sell off your website
Ad Space simply means using the space you have allocated in your website earlier and “sell” it to publishers that are interested to advertise on your website. They will place a banner or text ads and pay you when there’s click or pay you by a fixed monthly fee. The price usually depends on the traffic and demographics of the visitors you have on your website.
By having an affiliate site, your website can be a blog, review or story telling site that a product or service can be introduced or reviewed by you. For example if your website is talking about gaming peripherals, in your articles you can link to the website of companies that sell gaming peripherals like Razer, which you are an affiliate for them and when your visitor purchase through your affiliate link, you earn money.
Intermediary platform can be anything. You can offer a job board service like Job Street, car dealing service like Carlist.my, or a platform for people to sell their stuffs like Mudah.my. You can collect fees from the seller to list their product/service in your website, or offer extra purchase add-on to “highlight” or “feature” their listing.
If you have some talent like accounting, writing or drawing, you can also offer your talent as a service. Your website will serve as your portfolio and if anyone is interested in your service, they can contact you about it.
If you are a stockist, manufacturer, supplier or reseller of physical products, the best way to sell them is to create a ecommerce website. From your ecommerce website, you can sell all your products directly through the internet.
Lastly, if your website is good but you no longer want to maintain it, you can consider to sell it off via Flippa or other website flipping platform.
5. Scale it up!
So now you know how to make a website that earns money, but do you know how to maintain it or scale it up to earn even more?
You can’t expect to receive tons of visitors and earn money by just putting up your website and leave it. You will have to do advertising and promotions, sometimes, a lot of them.
There’s several ways to promote your website to attract traffics and increase sales, such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads, SEO and email marketing.
With the right tool and expertise, you can achieve a good result just by utilizing 1 or 2 online advertising methods.
